Dutch affiliate website Casino.nl has joined the myStridePositivePlay pilot project to help increase understanding of affiliates’ role in motivating players to adopt and engage with safer gambling tools.

The tool now live on Casino.nl consists of a suite of mini-games designed to help players take more control of their gambling behaviours by introducing strategic microbreaks into gaming sessions.

Anonymous data collected from players using the embedded app will inform research led by Dr Mary Donohoue of the Digital Wellness Center into how engaging tools can impact gambling habits.

Casino.nl Editor-in-Chief, Floris Assies (pictured below) said the pilot project running on the site will explore how igaming affiliates can go beyond education to actively support safer play and promote more informed decision making among online casino players.

“Our role as affiliates is evolving. We aim not only to inform but also to inspire action that fosters safer gambling. Through this pilot, we’re exploring how we can play an active part in driving responsible gaming practices, complementing our mission to be the most responsible casino affiliate in the Netherlands.”

Dr Donohue added: “These microbreaks work like a seatbelt for the brain, providing players with moments to reset and recalibrate their emotions.”

Researchers have found long and uninterrupted periods of gameplay to lead to excessive dopamine release, impairing players’ rational decision-making.

The findings from the research that Casino.nl is feeding into will be presented on 28 February 2025 at the Michigan Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters Conference.
