Gentoo Media announced the appointment of Mads Haugegaard Albrechtsen as group CFO and has promoted Paul Gatt to general counsel.
Before joining the affiliate, Albrechtsen was a partner and state-authorised public accountant at Deloitte Denmark. He brings extensive experience in advising medium-sized companies during periods of growth both nationally and internationally. His expertise spans financial strategy, finance function transformation, capital structure, M&A, risk management and external reporting across multiple industries.
Mikael Harstad, chairman of the board at Gentoo Media, described the CFO appointment as “the next step in the company’s evolution,” adding that it will help ensure a “closer alignment between finance and daily operations while the company grows.”
Meanwhile, former group CFO Tore Formo will transition into the role of company secretary and head of corporate governance. He will remain responsible for corporate governance and shareholder-related matters, serving as the primary point of contact for the company’s listed shares and bonds.
Joining Gentoo Media in 2022, Gatt has ten years of experience in various legal fields, with an academic background in business and sports. His previous roles include legal associate at Fenech & Fenech Advocates and vetting and conveyancing lawyer at Lombard Bank Malta, where he specialised in corporate law. He is also an executive committee member of the Malta IT Law Association and an affiliate member of the International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL).
In his previous role as legal counsel, Gatt played a key role in the company’s expansion, collaborating with the corporate development team on M&A transactions and ensuring the smooth integration of acquired businesses. He was also involved in navigating Gentoo Media’s corporate separation from Gaming Innovation Group (GiG), overseeing a smooth legal and regulatory transition.
As general counsel, Gatt will lead Gentoo Media’s legal and compliance function, reporting directly to CEO Jonas Warrer. Commenting on his promotion, Gatt said he is “thrilled to take on this role at such an exciting time for Gentoo” and looks forward to “continuing to support its growth,” working alongside the team to “navigate the evolving media and regulatory landscape.”
Warrer added: “Paul (Gatt) has been instrumental in shaping our legal framework during a period of rapid growth and strategic acquisitions. We are confident that, as General Counsel, he will continue to steer our legal and compliance strategy with precision and foresight.”
Gentoo Media recently reported the 16th consecutive record quarter in its Q4 2024 results with full year revenue up 41% to €124.5 million (£102.7 million/$129.7 million).
